Birgitta Thaysen (lives and works in Düsseldorf) studied fine art with Bernd & Hilla Becher at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, followed by video and performance art with Nan Hoover. She completed her studies as a master student in 1991. In 1992 she was awarded the Ringenberg scholarship of the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine Westphalia. Since 1992 she has worked as a photographer and media artist. Her areas of focus include urban photography and portraits. Her serial picture concepts have been shown to a wide public in numerous exhibitions. Birgitta Thaysen has been an artistic and academic staff member and lecturer for Photography and Film at the Hochschule Niederrhein in Krefeld since 2010. She was appointed a member of the German Photographic Society (DGPh) in 2017.
